When youre young you basically create most of your own problems, and maybe you have time and energy to deal with those problems if you wanted to. But when youre older youll have less time and energy to fix your self created issues, and additionally other problems will crop up that are out of your control (memory problems, back problems, gastrointenstinal problems, dick problems, family problems, etc). Im a 27year old boomer myself, I go to gym and eat healthy but even i feel less sharp and energetic than i did a few years ago. Your will power is strongest when your young, its easier to make arbitrary changes to your path without external pressure.
Alcoholism is a very relatable, simple and common problem, lots of people will be sympathetic and helpful if you decide to claw your way back to "good boy" lifestyle. But youre in a dark tunnel right now and even if you decide to walk in the right direction it will take time before you come out.
If you dont act on this epiphany, you will no doubt have other epiphanies in the future, but your brain will become numb to them. Like the roasty who has taken too much D becomes numb to love.
