>>20533312A sudden rush of anger boils over within Cassie, and Lexi yelps as her cousin grabs her by the throat and shoves her against a wall. “Don’t lie to me, girl. I don’t like liars.”
“I swear! It was the drugs!” Lexi insists.
Cassie chuckles bitterly. “Lying again. No one has ever overdosed on Obsidian Rush. That’s why it’s MY greatest cash cow. All pleasure, no consequences. So I’m gonna ask you one more time girl, and don’t lie to me again. What happened here?”
“Ok! Ok!” Lexi gasps. “I k-killed him, but I didn’t mean to. I swear.” Cassie releases her grip on Lexi, and the younger woman slumps to the floor. “I’ll explain everything to you,” she groans. “But please can we just get out of here before the staff come and see the body?”
“I know the owner of this place,” Cassie replies. “And getting rid of a body is… not an issue.”
A chill goes down Lexi’s spine at the realisation of what a minor inconvenience a dead body was to this woman. Lexi knew she was dealing with a dangerous criminal. But this was more than she bargained for. Not even her mum was quite so… cold.
Cassie turns to RJ, then gestures toward the body. “Call the cleanup crew, let them know we’ve got one needs sending to the pig farm.”
As the henchman nods and makes the call, Cassie pulls Lexi up to her feet. “Come on. You’ve got a lot of explaining to do.”
