When we at least attempt follow the basic principles of objective morality provided by God, something at least loosely similar to the ten commandments, our lives improve tremendously, we bring the will of God to earth as it is in heaven. When we lose faith in the morality taught by God and try to define it ourselves, we bring the will of Satan to earth as it is in hell.
Interpret this all as metaphorical if you wish, it makes little difference in this life. The outcome and patterns are the same.
