Then you will effectively have two rival superpowers to yourselves - the EU, and China. As well as Russia who are still a big military threat, even if not so much of an economic threat. And of course there's the emerging powers of India etc.
The EU's GDP is not much lower than the US's (pic related). In PPP terms it's actually HIGHER.
