During my mandatory military service I applied to become a fighter pilot. After I finished my first year, I was accepted and sent to the Texas, US at Sheppard AFB for 16 months.
It's extremely fucking hard, and I'd say about 40% of the people I went in with either dropped out on their own or were unable to pass.
Since the military paid for my pilot education, I had to sign a 12 year contract with them. Salary is about $164,000/year. I spend 4 weeks at base, then 4 weeks home with time off.
Spent 4 years there now, so got 8 left. Hopefully they'll renew when the 8 is up, cause I'm loving it.
