I think sometimes the recipes become more Americanized, like playing a game of telephone the recipe gets changed slightly over the generations. I live in Pennsylvania, which has a heavy influence of what's called Pennsylvania Dutch. It's heavy with the decendants of German immigrants. Everyone in a 50 mile radius has some sort of Germanic sounding last name. But anyway a lot of that German food has been passed down but slightly tweaked. Now you have shit like red beet eggs.
