Jews, masons, etc, all use a central stone as their reference point.
not some precious jewel, but something to keep them from rising too high in their own mind.
a humble stone or rock, that isn't beautiful to look at, or of much use, as a reminder to remain humble.
otherwise, you may think yourself a god, and that's a slippery slope that leads to the deaths of innocents.
that's why in all of their faults, homeless and poor people are a must in a society, both as a reminder to stay humble and an example to follow (living simple lives)
