They operate on electromagnetic principles, so the sun's gases would naturally be affected by the field. This would also explain the fantastic size of the bubble, if it were a ship's forcefield like in Star Trek, the ship would have to be fucking gigantic.
It should also be noted that the tornados in the sun's surface are a natural phenomena. It's estimated there's 11,000 of those gas twisters permeating the sun, it's not anything crazy. This bubble though is something different. It is obviously something displacing the solar gases, and it's huge. I would bet $20 on it being Space Germans
