Fojnder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith joined and became a master Mason. He brought in over 200 other members (fellow Mormons) and was banned by the Grand Mason. Mormons were not permited in Mason lodges for quite some time after due to their polygamy. I believe Smith may have been simply using the mason lodge to help grow his new religion.
