There's a good reason why we can't easily detect it: It's not supposed to be in our dimension or exist on our frequency level. Many years ago there were rumors floating around that they had actually captured a small amount of it and lent their sample to a research university. Everyone who had any extended time in its vicinity experienced paranormal events and horrible nightmares. Last time I checked this was scrubbed from the net.
