Land of the canal, exquisite stone buildings, all done accordingly to Flemish/Dutch architectural preference. Bruges was originally a city made completely of wooden buildings, but subsequent fires which burnt the city center down, led to the city being rebuilt from stone during medieval times. Imagine if you will, through the eyes of a medieval citizen of Bruges. You stare down this river, lined with freshly cut stone houses; this is what you see - it hasn't changed at all. Weather and grime have done nothing more than perfect what was already perfect. This weathered look is the key to European beauty, it cannot be replicated or done without the subtle touch of 500 years of rain, dirt, and whatever else can be caked on to it's surface.
