and the hobbit and the silmarillion after
the movies are spectacular. the best movies i've ever seen, incredibly well done.
but they still don't do the books justice, not remotely. the timespan of the novel is far greater than able to be encapsulated by a movie, and the nobility and radiant beauty of his writing and characters will never be translated well into a film, no matter how well done.
