They are so advanced that once they 'grow up' over a certain threshold they become so smart to literally know everything thus losing the will to live and become depressed beyond salvation. But one should then not limit himself by knowledge fearing knowing too much and ending it all, one should always leave himself one question unanswered, so that the fire keeps burning and the torus keeps turning. Something like that right?
