Most non-retarded(aka non-british) people put the laundry in either its whole own room(in homes) or in a closet(in apartments) to dampen the noise. The only places I have seen with laundry in the kitchen are older homes and/or poor people homes.
Food preparation is suppose to be a relaxing and comforting experience and a kitchen is the heart of any good house hold, adding loud machines with whirling motors and banging tumblers is antithetical to patrician kitchen design.
Also: dishwashing machines are a meme for lazy people, people who don't cook, boomers, and feminists who think they are above washing dishes. You EAT from those dishes so at least respect yourself/your family enough to actually clean them properly. I have never seen a quality restaurant, cook, housewife, or maid use a dishwasher, they all wash by hand to ensure they get spotless, completely clean dishes.
