Why is this not a valid option? I'm genuinely asking. My wife and I "fell in love" back in our teens, but we also developed something like a business understanding in our relationship. We had our own expectations, and had to do a bit of bargaining. She went in wanting basically no kids. I wanted like 4. We've settled on at least two. We split our efforts, share our finances, etc; however, this was all the result of negotiating and discussions, not just some demand that got made.
I genuinely don't understand the Japanese.
