Update after a very full day of ups and downs and having my world cracked open a little bit.
So turns out, yeah, the midnight gathering last night was indeed about me, but actually one of those "Welcome back" planning things. I got surprised with a bit of a surprise party at the local diner. Well, not really a party, more of a sit down meet and greet sort of thing. Definitely awkward when its pretty much total strangers from a long time ago.
Anywho, after some meet and greet with some old fogies, their children and grandchildren and the lots of "Hey, you married?" inquiries, brass tacks were had.
The elders (who apparently still do the midnight cloak society thing) pretty much handed me a message from my Father, who was also a junior member of that society.
I won't go into detail with what it said, but he pretty much forgave and understood me for wanting to explore, calling it the right answer to find a personal Truth. In the message, he said he was proud of the man I would become, and if I should ever find myself lost in the big world, to return to the homestead which would always be welcoming.
Then I got confirmation, that yes, the people buried at my homestead are indeed my parents. I didn't get yelled at all, because no one knew how to get into contact with me. But yeah, Mother passed from illness in Winter, Father passed from hypothermia and exposure. Apparently the town didn't find either until Spring. It was 6 years ago, and one of the kookier elders said "Yup, Covid got them even all the way out here." but he was elbowed by his daughter.
But yeah, turns out, the Midnight Society, as it were, took care of my homestead after Father and Mother passed, because Father thought there would be a time I would return after being tired with life, which explains why it was taken care of. I thought it was because it was out in the middle of nowhere, and in the right environment but hey.
Oddly wholesome, but full day.
