Because of the economy of scale growing a shitload of food isn't necessarily profitable to the government gives agro businesses subsidies to control the price of goods. The most profitable and subsidized food in America is corn, therefore corn is 90% of the grain we grow. Except in California which has state subsidies to grow other foods (my uncle grew broccoli there) and Arkansas/Louisiana which grows rice.
Because we have a shit load of corn, like legit ~15% of our landmass is corn farms, we use corn in practically everything. After fat was heavily regulated meat companies started putting corn syrup, or the sugar extracted from corn, in meat to flavor it which makes even our meat largely corn. Corn is in our bread, whiskey, meat, and even other vegitables are preserved in corn syrup to stay fresh because we have just so much of the shit that we shoehorn it into any industrial venture possible. Corn companies have now grown into the largest agro companies and lobby heavily to keep this status quo.
In short, America literally eats nothing but the most unhealthy part of corn anytime they eat any commercially sold food. Unless you wanna subsistence farm or be Amish you're just doomed to get corn fucked.
