yeah, i'll actually end up graduating kind of early doing it this way too. the short version is that my uni doesn't offer any japanese classes during the summer, but after finishing japanese 4 i don't have any specific class requirements to meet as long as i get enough japanese hours overall
so i'll take just japanese 3 in fall 2021, japanese 4 + an individual study in spring 2022, go to japan summer 2022. ideally i'll take just one or two classes, then come back to the US for a lazy fall 2022 semester, go to japan again to cram in one heavy semester there so when i come back i'll be able to just collect my degree.
alternatively i think it's possible that i could take a ton of classes summer 2022 in japan and fall 2022 in the US then graduate, but i'm not super sure that works out and i don't end up getting to take as many of my classes in japan which will have more options
