Don't bother asking me how I know.. but the items you seek are in Spain, not Bedford County.. much has been made of Poe's writing on the Gold Bug, but those authors did not dig deep enough; nor did they know Poe the way others did.. The little town of Montilla is where the *cask* of Amontillado comes from.. located in the province of Andalusia, the area gets it's name from the latin word, Vandalisia, the county of the vandals.. Montilla is also the birthplace of "Captain" Gonsalvo of Cordoba.. the castle in Montilla belonged to his father.. Perhaps you will begin your search there. In the Cask of Amantillado, Poe plays a character named Montressor.. think Montresor's island.. then read about the island in the Gold Bug.
>“Pretty much, but not altogether,” said Legrand. “You may have heard of one Captain Kidd. I at once looked upon the figure of the animal as a kind of punning or hieroglyphical signature. I say signature; because its position upon the vellum suggested this idea. The death’s-head at the corner diagonally opposite, had, in the same manner, the air of a stamp, or seal. But I was sorely put out by the absence of all else — of the body to my imagined instrument — of the text for my context.”
>This Island is a very singular one. It consists of little else than the sea sand, and is about three miles long. Its breadth at no point exceeds a quarter of a mile.
Sometimes a cipher is just a cipher. It's disinformation; which is why it hasn't been solved. But what can be solved is the human relationship; especially when someone as honest as Poe wants to tell you something.. He knew Beale. They hung out together in Richmond Virginia at an Inn owned by Robert Morris. The cipher in the Gold Bug is also disinformation. But after four years of silence on the matter Poe felt compelled to tell Beale's story. That's what the Cask of Amontillado is about; because Beale tried to fuck him over.. so Poe told the world where the gold was. Your welcome
