"Roman paganism" was quite literally literature, theatre and art. You believed in it as strongly as you believe in Santa claus, at the level of a vague superstition at best. No one would kill you if you offended Jove/Zeus - in fact, even offending them was beneath anybody, in the same way you wouldn't just walk around say MAN, FUCK SPIDERMAN. They were characters, and lore, with a hint of superstition, not religion.
Anyone trying to make a religion out of what remains of the Greco-Roman pantheon would unironically look like the biggest retard in a 100 mile radius.
