i hadn't heard 止む before but i looked it up and it seems ur right. 止む and 止まる are very similar and have some vague differentiation about 止む being natural and 止まる being artificial. it's definitely not 止める though i think since that's transitive and the rain isn't stopping anything or being stopped by anything
