>>8999539there's a lot of history that needs to be preserved, and the loss of the archives relegates it only to w/e screenshots people save, which are not very trustworthy due to edits. it is very nice that i can pull out a post from 3 years ago of /ptg/'s history if i need to arbitrarily. sure, i can use it for deanonymizing purposes, but i've only actually done that like twice and only when someone's given me a very obvious lead. i don't really think the archives degrade the imageboards much
>>8999543yeah, that's why the 4plebs layout is best, and why it fucking sucks that i can't search /v/, /a/ or /vg/ content easily right now
>>8999545desu i feel like losing the archives will destroy some of the board culture, especially as these sites and the userbase gets older. it's bad enough these things only go back some years and not to the earliest days of the site
think of it like history: it's better to have as much laid bare as possible, instead of curating it, because you get a contrived image of the past biased by the one curating it if you let it be done that way. that's only nice if you agree with the curator
it's not just the archives too: a lot of the old content from the earlier days of /ptg/, like videos or articles, don't exist anymore. even something that seems kinda recent, like some of the meme videos of the vegas shooting are gone now
