Polygamy creates incels, incels create instability, sloth and apathy, which eventually leads to destruction. It's a species of the same problem as with wealth disparities and aristocracy; when too much is in the hands of too few, and too little in the hands of too many, the people become disengaged with the system and disloyal to its goals, leaving the too few to try to keep the system going by their lonesomes, and inevitably they fail.
Civilization is based around the compact between Chad and Betamax to distribute women/resources more equally. Artificially cutting the betas into the breeding pool gives them a stake in the system and creates a huge labor force compared to what Chad hierarchy can usually manage, a small group of Chads and pressganged women doing all the work while betas just look out for themselves.
But inevitably people forget how this system works; likely because it can't be taught publicly where women might hear it; and they start to think that monogamy is just how things are, rather than a system that needs defending. So they start making exceptions and ignoring the rules and forcing the betas into meritocratic breeding which they fail at too often, and life returns to nature. The betas get cut out of the breeding pool, become disengaged, lazy and selfish, the Chads and women break under the burden of the system, and some other civilization sweeps in from outside, restoring order.
The only question in the modern day is whether Americans will be able to handle the disintegration of the empire with as much maturity and grace as the USSR did, or whether our ruling class of Semitic "Chads" will insist on nuking the world out of spite.
