old world is where the center of the world is, japan is a corner and thus they're similar to barbaric aztecs
warfare is the same either way if it is aztec or japanese or old world. archers and spears and shields albiet their weapons look slightly different and aztecs weapons were sharper (obsidian fragments can be sharper than whatever you can get steel to) thus conquistadors were surprised when they saw a native aztec warrior weilding something that looked like a club suddenly behead their horse in one chop
they were post collapse anyway since there was a volcano eruption that happened some time before that fucked them over and caused famine
