They were made of convicted criminals who were not expected by Nazi Germany to survive their service with the unit. Originally formed in 1940 and first deployed for counter-insurgency duties against the Polish resistance movement, the brigade saw service in anti-partisan actions in German-occupied Eastern Europe.

That's why I call it good propaganda, it depict real events but for the uninformed they will think the it was a regular thing to happen and that the german army in general burned village for nothing.
Anyway you could have done the same movie on the german side. War is brutal and this movie is pretty good at showing it.
