In 1998, the Russian economic crisis also fucked us over. It's a globalized world. Definitely in our interest to have prosperous neighbors. It'd be better if places like Belarus were more open. Of course, there's nuance. Like, we need to be more independent of Russia because they use their control of energy resources for political gain more aggressively. But it's still good for us if Russia's economy is doing well. Richer countries are also less likely to resort to chauvinism.
