it's just a way to let shitters have fun by placing high. the idea is that people who are good at the game can win fights then snowball into more wins since they can just pick the best loot off of every corpse. by doing that they're very well equipped near the end of the game so they're way more likely to get top 3 compared to people that are just camping out with the first shitty pistol they found
