This physical pinnacle of mankind had no living descendants, and this is how evolution and nature actually work. They do not care how sentient or smart or strong or empathic a lifeform is, they will utterly destroy it in order to pump out more environmentally adaptive grease. Evolution spits out countless living things, which overwhelmingly perish thanks to genetic load and instability and disease and predation, until only a few are left, and those few then reproduce more offspring that repeat the process.
There is nothing divine or sophisticated about this process, that's just your holdover from a religious background. Evolution doesn't refine things until they arrive at a human level, multiple highly intelligent and K-selected species have existed throughout earth's history and died out to make way for more r-selected mindless rat skinks, and humans are nothing more than an inconvenient glitch in evolution, and have existed for a mere blip in the evolutionary history of this planet. Evolution isn't efficient at transforming the genetics of a species through natural selection - human genetic engineering and computer science has become capable of modifying the chromosomal DNA of mice in minutes what would take evolution millions of years of evolution, death, and suffering to accomplish. Worshipping Nature and evolution as an intelligent empathic being is like worshipping a tsunami as it falls on your head. Its a mindless kinetic force and the enemy of all Sentient Life.
