Socially enforced monogamy is the compromise between the competing male and female sexual imperatives. Men seek harems and to maximize their chances of reproducing. Women seek hypergamy to maximize the quality of their offspring and their social positions under male dominion.
Removing socially enforced monogamy results first sluttiness, then soft polygamy, then a Taliban scenario which socially enforces polygamy combined with full societal collapse, then finally traditional arranged marriage where women are traded between men like commodities.
This is what women chose. Not men.
