Some old codgers have transcended beyond the need for frens and family. They become more like monuments or libraries, and for most of them that's perfectly fine. There's an old guy who sits in a park by me playing chess and reading, everyone knows that if you've got something vexing you you can talk to him, as long as you'll give him a game of chess. Communities tend to look out for people like that, why wouldn't they?
