Even if you don't believe in Christ and/or God you can't deny that the Bible and its stories are important to the core of western civilization, and in a more base level important to humanity.
This is why they want to tear it away from our society, it's a book that helps us be better people.
If God is Good, maybe he's the good in every people we meet and live with.
Those that go out and do evils are denying the good in them. Thus turning their back on God and His simple tips to live by.
