They just say it's likely that (add person description) did the crime. Even if the witness saw someone else he may think he saw the described person. Same thing could be applied to mental health. You think you are npd so you change your thoughts about how you actually feel. Maybe you feel like npd explains you a bit and therefore went full npd. Or maybe you just are truly npd.
