The original Israelites are basically sort of ok with the Canaanites, but still have some inter-conflicts due to differences in local religion. The two groups fight, and the Israelites usually lose these fights.
Assyrian invasions
This is the period of the Israelites getting brutalized by Canaanites, always on the defensive. The Hebrews first ally with the Canaanites in 854 BCE, but then, conflict between Ahab and Ben Hadad occurs. By 750 BCE, the Kingdom of Israel was destroyed by Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser III.
There was very little time when the Hebrews were not getting assfucked by some foreign power. They did fight and try to protect themselves, but this was very difficult.
Babylonian, Persian, and Hellenistic periods (586–37 BCE)
This is a long ass fucking time where the people of Israel were subjugated by other people.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_ancient_Israel_and_JudahJudah, was not Israel, and this area was contested by many people.
Israel was fighting with with Moab, Ammon and Aram Damascus in the east for control of Gilead;[38] the Mesha Stele (c. 830 BCE), left by a king of Moab, celebrates his success in throwing off the oppression of the "House of Omri" (i.e., Israel). It bears what is generally thought to be the earliest extra-biblical reference to the name Yahweh.
The Jews take their name from this contested area of Judea, not from the kingdom of Israel. The Jews, even in name, are a hodgepodge group of fuckers who are produced by the influences of both the Israelites and the Canaanites, who, anthropologically, is a broad term which includes all people of this area, including the Hebrews, but predominantly emphasizes the people worshiping the polytheistic faith.
