technically it's not that they don't possess this information just that it takes a while to sort process and they don't have that sort of time when they're expected to give people a definitive class list in 10 minutes
i still argue that this exact situation was a factor to me dropping out in the first place. i just trusted some professor's recommendations and in hindsight it's clear they had no clue what they were talking about and set me down a weird path
