Don't you really know about that basic optical illusion? That's caused by the distance difference from Earth. You can experiment it at home.
Take an sphere, draw something in it, look close to the drawing and move away slowly while staring at it. You will see that, the more far away you're from the sphere, the more small the drawing will appear reggarding to the sphere.
