Late 70s and early 80s was peak rock and roll. Not "hair metal," but just killer music.
Frankly, I blame Van Halen breaking up with David Lee Roth. He went on to do straight up glam rock/ hair metal. Meanwhile Van Halen with Sammy Hagar kept on making party rock; although the albums got a bit less exciting. Although F.U.C.K. was pretty good alt/ "grungier" Van Halen album.
It's all better than rap and hip hop.
