Samantha, or Sam as she preferred to be called, was an adorable little 8 year old girl. A slim ginger girl, with short red hair, green eyes and freckles, just like her late mother.
But... Sam wasn't like all the other little girls her age. Most 8 year olds liked to play with dolls or play dress-up. They liked to act like little princesses, and loved to be treated like them. Sam wasn't that sort of girl. Sam was what you would call a tomboy, a rough and tough girl who hated absolutely anything that one could consider "girly", and instead preferred to play sports, video games and just liked to get sweaty and dirty in general.
She hated playing with other girls, and found them to be boring and "too sugary", to quote her. Instead, she was "one of the boys", and preferred to play with the young males of the neighborhood. At first, they turned her down, but she earned their respect - and their fear, when she managed to beat them up for looking down on her.
However, even though Sam and her male friends had no problem with her lifestyle choices, her single father Ryan was less than pleased with his daughter's ways. When his late wife had given birth to an adorable little girl, he thought that the two of them would raise her to be a "perfect woman", much like her mother was. A feminine, demure housewife - that's what little Samantha would grow into someday.
But Sam wouldn't have it. Every attempt to make her lady-like was met with fierce, and sometimes violent retaliation. Her father would buy her dolls, which she would snap in half. He would buy her dresses, that she would tear into pieces. He once suggested that she tie her long (at the time) hair into pigtails, which she protested by taking a pair of scissors to her own head and chopping most of her hair off. Ryan wasn't sure where she picked up this tomboyishness, but he knew that he didn't like it.
