Not that Britain is any better. The Chinese probably didn't even have to bribe British politicans or civil servants to get Diego Garcia. I could forgive them if that was the case. They would still have to be tried for treason, but I wouldn't watch (after due process of law) the execution.
Still, who-so-ever controls Diego Garcia controls the Indian Ocean. Whatever the legal niceties, America won't be leaving. Let them deal with the legal this and that.
Subject to a commitment to split any resource extraction revenue (should that ever occur) and customs revenue from the spaceport. I would have sold it to the Americans.
