This applies to all of Latin America. But, it's difficult to say how much of this can be blamed on American influence, and how much on organic home grown retardation from our own libshit intelligentsia. The two are very intertwined.
Of course, the depiction of (actual) Mexicans in American media has never been accurate and has always been motivated by the politics of the moment, whether it's anti-Mexican, Hispanophobia or the modern attempts by american liberals to make us into dogs for their cause. Currently the most damage to our global image comes from American fearmongering and constant negative coverage of the cartel issue and poverty, which creates an impression that the problem is worse than it actually is (i.e., that Mexico is a narcostate or a failed state) as well as that the problem is due to inherent nature or culture of Mexicans, when in reality it's the result of specific material conditions created by specific decisions by the USA as well as the Mexican government after the neoliberal ZOG takeover of the 1980's.
