i agree with the bits about subtitles and not being able to translate hard words even though i'm monolingual. half the reason i got interested in studying another language is because i realized how unreliable translations can be even when they're coming from reputable sources. i get that some concepts don't map well from one language to another but i swear to god the more i learn the more i feel like some people don't even try to get it right.
like yeah "unnie" is hard to put into english concisely but that's no excuse to translate it as "sis" when two middle aged women are meeting each other for the first time
