Late 70s CB was used where cell phones and internet are used today. There were even relays of information up and down the highway. We had a home base station, dad would call on the CB when he was coming home from work, he wasn't a trucker at the time. Everyone had one in their vehicle. It's still the best way to get traffic info while travelling and is way better than any nav program.
Neighbor had a huge antenna with big 90* arms he could point, did all the illegal boosting and amping.
Government encouraged it because no one had internet but a CB would be good communication in the event of a nuclear war.
