Russia cannot offer the same benefits to Ukraine that the west can. Everyone in west Ukraine wants to join the west so the west induced them to protest and kick out their pro Russian president. That's what led to this whole kerfuffle. you might think this is immoral or whatever but Putin would do the same to the west if he could. the west is just doing it to him first because they can.
