yes! the first example i saw was a vn where yakiniku got translated as korean bbq and the translator explained on twitter this was done because japs just stole the food from korea and changed the name so they wouldn't have to decide between using 韓国 or 北朝鮮 when describing it so he wanted to right this wrong and accredit the appropriate culture
another example was that there was some bi character in a vn and people were complaining about it so the localizer said he made the character gayer on purpose to spite those people
many such cases unfortunately
