Then after 1994 grunge was deemed as passe and major labels started promoting single-artists over multi-member bands as it was more financially lucrative for them
There were some smaller rock movements during the mid to late 90s (britpop, numetal, industrial etc) but they were very tiny in comparison to the rock/metal scene in LA during the 80s
