I might also have a very good job offer at the Powder River Basin as a conveyor belt mechanic. I know a lot about belts. Ordinarily, I am an underground guy, but there is a charisma about the Powder River Basin that no coal miner can deny.
The Powder River Basin has more coal than any other coal basin on planet Earth by a mile. The exposed surface coal seams are nearly 100 feet (30 meters) thick of black subbituminous coal.
The Powder River Basin, in short, is the coaliest coal region that ever coaled. Yes, it produces thermal coal, which is in decline, but life is long and so is my career. I can do this for a while and then go back underground, in America or elsewhere, later on.
Hence I am considering this offer seriously. What do you bros think? Standing before a 30 meter thick coal seam (which even runs underground, though enough is uncovered now due to surface removal that there is no need for underground mining of the PRB at this point), would be a sublime moment for a coal fanatic like me.
It was the love of coal that got me into underground mining, not the love of mining that got me into coal. So I have much to consider in the coming weeks.
