I'm lucky enough to have one friend irl who is into listening a lot of obscure music, it's fucking great when I can recommend them an album and I know they will listen to it and talk about it with me. Our tastes in music are a bit different but that doesn't matter, he is more into rap, punk and dreampop and I like slowcore, emo and indie rock but neither of us mind, it's just nice when you can talk to someone who is actually interested in whatever you're talking about.
But yeah I mostly discover new stuff about my interests on internet. I really like talking to people from different countries because they have usually led pretty different lives in a different culture and that makes for a fresh experience or whatever.
