The life path I describe ends up with her AT WORST having children with a man she actually loved. And, if he divorces her, she gets alimony (this is the legitimate use for alimony). She has a better relationship with her kids so she's no entirely alone in her old age.
But the best outcome from life path I described is that she has children with a man she loves, and when they grow up and move out, she still lives with this man. The kids then start bringing grandkids around and she gets round-2 of unimaginable joy, having Christmases and Thanksgivings and so on with her grandkids.
She gets to spoil them. She gets to be the respected matriarch of the family, who people look to for advice. She beams with pride at the success of her family. When the kids leave after the holidays, she sits on the couch with her man and they hold each other and reminisce about falling and love and raising the family.
...and this is her life for the next 40 years. She never feels alone.
