She loves it, that soreness. That and the damp feeling of her own blood on her face. And the way her heart is racing. That feeling of excitement in her bones. It’s the thrill she was seeking when she decided to compete in the WWA. A chance to recreate the feeling she had as a fighter in her teen years.
Cassie crouches next to Lillith and lowers her voice so only the hulking beast could hear. Those in the crowd and watching at home likely assumed Cassie was whispering insults or other taunts to her opponent, but the words Lillith hears are only of gratitude and respect. “Thanks. I needed a fight like that. We should do it again some day.”
Cassie then rises to her feet and poses for the crowd, just about managing to raise her arm as her sore ribs cry out in protest. Cassie takes one last look back at Lillith. She may have been beaten today, but Cassie is certain she hits harder than any other woman she’s faced in the company. If she ever managed to channel her considerable brawn in a more cerebral manner during a fight, or had someone to guide her, she’d be a frightening opponent indeed.
But for now at least, Lillith is in Cassie’s rear view mirror, and it’s time to focus on what comes next. She rolls out of the ring and rushes backstage, eager to soothe her tired muscles in a warm bath once she returns home.
