ITT: continentals talking about things they know nothing about
I come from a family of sailors. My great-great-grandfather rounded the horn in the Napoleonic wars. My family owns one Falkuša from the 19th century (it's basically family heirloom, it was passed on from generation to generation) and two sailbots for charter business. I went fishing with my grandfather even back when I was 3 years old.
You can NOT get a decent boat for 1-2k dollars and even if you could, that's not even 1/10th of the price you'd eventually pay for mooring fees, repairs, etc. Also, you cannot just choose the sailors life. There's too many things you gotta learn first about everything from navigation to upkeep. And you also think that fishing is a joke. And that storms are a joke. You wouldn't last 2 weeks on the seas.
Also, the sea is cruel. Stop romanticizing the sea life. An old proverb here in Dalmatia says that "a sailor's life is bread with seven crusts". In other words, it's not for everyone, it's only for the toughest of motherfuckers. You can instantly spot the old sea wolves by their physiognomy. They look worse than people who have been through the war.
You do not know the sea.
