There's been a concerted push in our culture to no longer value effort. In fact, it's gone to such an extreme that society laughs at those who work hard. Gothic, Renaissance, etc art takes massive amounts of effort and the artist's understanding of the world around them. Modern art is extremely easy, sometimes it's just a dot of paint on a blank page. Modern art is neither a reflection of life or a critique of it. They say it is, but the only reason it can be related to life is because of retarded semantics that they use to scrape concepts down to the bone, so that everything can seem profound and connected.
